Handling offlined network printers?

Hi,

Is there some way to configure cups to poll network printers in a given interval and a) visibly put to disabled state those which seem offline and b) make *sure* the class these printers are in "routes around" them *quickly* without getting jobs stuck waiting for the malfunctioning device?
I am new to CUPS and not been able to test every kind of dynamic behaviour yet...

Also, is there any per-printer setting like retry_count# from lprng?
