printing extreme slow

Hi,

I'm using a HP Color-laserjet 2550 (Postscript printer) with Cups 1.1.23
(SUSE 9.3), but figured out that the printing is extremely slow. 

The printer is attached to /dev/lp0, and the parallel port uses interrupt 7.
For a 7MB Job it takes about 5 minutes before the page comes out (on a
Laserjet 5L using ghostscript it starts basically immediately).

Upgrading the printer to 192 MB RAM did not solve the problem.

Is this a Cups issue? Any ideas what I can do?
