the one on the cdrom.  These docs tell you to use the brother ppd file 
if the printer is not listed.

my printer is not listed there.

since I posted the original, I've also tried to use an alternative 
channel for printing (JetDirect) and that also fails.  I've also noticed 
that the printer does not turn on whenever IPP print jobs are started.

help?
