[cups.general] getting "Print file sent, waiting for printer to finish..." even though printing *is* done

Hi,

I'm using Linux RedHat ES 4:
Linux xyz.pb.com 2.6.9-11.ELsmp #1 SMP Fri May 20
18:26:27 EDT 2005 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

with the following cups RPMs:
   cups-devel-1.1.22-0.rc1.9
   hal-cups-utils-0.5.2-8
   cups-1.1.22-0.rc1.9.7
   libgnomecups-0.1.12-5
   cups-libs-1.1.22-0.rc1.9.7

We have a HP LJ 8000DN and I'm able to define the
printer using
the command line below (after 'gunzipping' the
laserjet.ppd.gz
file in /usr/share/cups/model)
   lpadmin -p 8000center -E -v socket://1.2.3.4:9100
-m laserjet.ppd

I can print fine but after printing, the message
"Print file sent,
waiting for printer to finish..." stays until I run
"/usr/bin/enable 8000center"

Here's the output of "lpstat -t"
scheduler is running
system default destination: 8000center
device for 8000center: socket://1.2.3.4:9100
8000center accepting requests since Jan 01 00:00
printer 8000center is idle. enabled since Jan 01
00:00
Print file sent, waiting for printer to
finish...

I also tried omitting 9100 when defining the printer.
The printer
still works but the "Print file sent..." message still
appears.

Here's the output after I re-enable the printer:
scheduler is running
system default destination: 8000center
device for 8000center: socket://152.144.75.81:9100
8000center accepting requests since Jan 01 00:00
printer 8000center is idle. enabled since Jan 01
00:00

My question...is this a bug or do I need a different
ppd
file besides the one which comes with CUPS RPM?

Thanks.
JohnF
