how to make cups ignore papersize?

I have the same issue. I checked out the options for various printers 
we've got. Our Laserjet 4500 has such an option, but out Ricoh printers 
don't. Is this a function of CUPS or of the printer? ie can I copy & 
paste stuff from my Laserjet 4500 ppd into my Ricoh ppds to provide this 
option?
