I've the same behaviour as Peter described in Topic 10.
Cups version 1.1.23 on SuSe - Linux 9.2
for all my print queues. (HP-, Konica-,Lexmark printer)
The hpnpf backend works well.
With cups version 1.1.19 it works pretty good.
Any solution other than to edit the PPD files.
