Well, I have to say that my experience with CUPS has been pretty
frustrating.  It has been very quirky and works some times and not
others.  I also notice that the drivers for my printer aren't exactly
right despite the fact that linuxprinting says that my printer is 100%
supported.

BTW, my particular woes have to do with interfacing with Windows. I
can't change the print resolution, for example, from my Windows box.

It really seems like if you have a cheap printer you're hosed.
I'll bet the big corporate Unix printers spin like a top, though.
