Need LPRng to CUPS advice

Hi All,

I have been using LPRng on my Red Hat 8 & 9 servers.
I now have a new server that I am going to install
White Box Enterprise Linux 3 (WBEL). (It is like Red Hat
Enterprise Linux, only cheaper.) And, WBEL uses CUPS
instead of LPRng.

I am somewhat afraid of CUPS, as I tried it several
years ago and it was awful. If Red Hat (and WBEL)
have switched to it, I am presuming that it has
gotten a lot better.

The server will have two serial pin printers and
one parallel laser printer attached to the local ports.
It will also have up to 30 LPD style remote printers
that the new server will need to spool for.

This is what scares me. The following two LPRnd
commands in /etc/printcap do not seems to be supported
in CUPS:

                 :mc#20:\ (Maximum copies)
                 :send_try#50:\ (Maximun send tries)

Is there another way to achieve what these two commands
do in CUPS? Am I missing something here? Is CUPS not
designed for server duties?

Many thanks,
