Try experimenting with different PPDs.

Install the postscript drivers on Windows and go hunting for the PPD 
there - I can't remember where exactly it goes.

Try a cups-o-matic PPD from http://www.linuxprinting.org

Also see if you can track down some Mac OS X drivers, as Apple sometimes 
modify their PPD to work better. I'm using PPDs from all 3 above sources 
for our HP printers here at work.
