failure to recognise password when adding a printer

I have just had installed Suse version 9.1 but when I tried to add a printer to my individual site, it refused to recognise my password on the verification.  I tried again in another user site with their password and had the same problem.
I went to Yast and printed a test page there successfully.  Can anyone see why my password is being refused on the individual sites?  With thanks.
