I am currently using gs 8.15 patched -
I had to change cups.mak at line 32
from - $(SETPDEV2) $(DD)cups $(cups_)
to - $(SETPDEV2) $(DD)cups $(cups_) -lib cups -lib cupsimage

I have been using gs 8.15 for about 2 weeks without a problem.
