Get the hpnpf utility (from the links on the CUPS web site), compile it,
and use it as a
standalone utility. Don't forget to tell it to be verbose (-v switch).
It should report
what is going wrong (or at least give some hints).

Note: do the filaing PS jobs contain true binary data? if yes, check
with the TBCP switch of
hpnpf if using this protocol helps.
