What about modifying your filter to function as a service (e.g. driven and controlled by
xinetd) to extract all the options and, additionaly, the data stream to be printed, and
issue a lp command to print this stuff via CUPS ?
Looking into the LPRng documentation regarding the sequence of control and data files
and the options allowed in the control file, this should be not too hard.
