[cups.general] client authentication

how can i have a local cups daemon authenticate to a remote cups daemon ?
or authenticate by computer with a certificate ?

i wanted to share a printer to a few people on an untrusted network.

i tried to use the cups client with out the daemon on the client but then
the X applications do not see the printer, for example gedit.

i was hoping the gui apps could pop and ask for username and password or
have the server request a cert and put one on the trusted client.

i searched a lot on this and find very little on user authentication from
clients.  find too much from samba stuff
