adjusting print darkness on Lexmark printer

> When I send an ascii print file to a Lexmark Optra 2420 CUPS queue the print is very light as compared to the same file sent using a queue created by the lexmark utility (lexprt).  What lpoption or ppd modification can I make to cause the print to be darker?

 I am having the same issue with a Lexmark Optra Lxi and was curious as to the resolution. I checked for a reply to this issue and could not find one.
