I tried different variants:
    lpr -P printer -o key=value ...
    lp -d printer -o key=value ...
    lp -d printer -o portrait ...
    lpr -o key=value -P printer ...
    lp -o key=value -d printer ...
    lpoptions -d printer -o key=value

without receiving any value in the options parameter of the backend.
