Lock files for a printer

I'm running a command to turn on the printer when a print job is available. When the job is done I turn off the printer (I'm using X10). For a single print job this works great (thanks to Jeff Hardy and accsnmp)! Now The problem is when I send a second print job to the printer the printer get turned off shortly after it starts printing. Are there ay lock files that tell me that a print job is in the works?
