unable to get a Brother DCP-310cn to print

I am trying to get my Brother DCP-310 to print through cups.

i have the ppd file, which I got from the debian package on Brothers web site, installed along with the filter which comes with it.

I have managed to get the printer setup in the cups admin and checked the setup through gnome-cups-admin.

I am trying to print over the network using port 9100 which I can happily telnet to so is open and expecting data.

When I try to print a test page, nothing gets sent to the printer, I have checked this by running ethereal and watching for network traffic, there is none!

I am guessing that the line:

PID 6840 stopped with status 30!

is where the problem is but googling for this message returns nothing.

Can anyone help?
