CUPS "loses" printer settings

i have seen this problem, but i think it has more to do with either kudzo or 
redhats printer manager. not with cups.
the reason i think this way is that every time redhat has an update for 
system-config-printer*.rpm i see a new printer installed, the new printer 
however is installed wrong and printing does not work, removing the new printer 
and setting the old cups manually added printer works.

at the moment i have no problem with changes at boot time (printer stays ok), 
but i never take any updates on system-config-printer.
