No.
Read it more carefully.
In particular read the step by step instructions regarding
"Printing Plain ASCII Text in Printer-Specific Encoding"
which results a "System V style interface script".

Read the section about dot-matrix printers (i.e. the section
about "Printing Plain ASCII Text in Printer-Specific Encoding")
more carefully and you will understand how all the stuff works.
