Extra page prints at end of job.

When printing a document an extra blank page prints after a fresh Debian install with KDE.

After I installed Debian Sarge with:
1) K2.6.8-1 for 386 default from CD1.
2) Desktop option selected from tasksel.
3) Configure CUPS using K/ControlCenter/(Peripherals)/Printers
   with HP LaserJet 4 Plus Foomatic/gimp-print-ijs
4) Plus all the packages that are needed.

Printing seems to work fine but an extra blank page prints at end of print job, even on the test page.

I went to the FAQ at http://www.linuxprinting.org/cups-faq.html#q_2_16. This FAQ did not help. FAQ is attached at end for reference.

SOLUTION that worked for me.

It seems that the default install sets the duplex printing to "Long side". This setting is under:
K/ControlCenter/(Peripherals)/Printers/Instance/Settings/General

I selected the printer having the problem. Then set the "Duplex Printing" to "None".

This seemed to correct the problem for me.

COMMENT

I would think that the default "Duplex Printing" should be set to "None". Maybe there should be a reference added to the below FAQ entry that might say:

"Also be sure to check the "Duplex Printing" setting within the KDE Control Center. Set it to "None" if your printer does not support duplex printing."

As with anything, maybe someone else could comment if this works for them as well.

I Hope this helps someone else.

2.16 Why does a blank page print for every print job?

    The exact cause is unknown. There is one possible workaround, if you do not need the CUPS accounting information.

    The accounting functionality can be disabled in the cupsomatic filter by changing the line
    my $ps_accounting = 1;
    to
    my $ps_accounting = 0;
    in the filter script /usr/lib/cups/filter/cupsomatic as the user root. If you use /etc/foomatic/filter.conf, disable ps_accounting there.
