Overwrite Mac OS X 10.3.9 CUPS with CUPS 1.1.23 Posible?

While it is certainly possible to install your build over Apple's, I 
would not recommend it.  More than likely you will break more than you 
fix.  I doubt that the GUI Printer Setup Utility would work.  You will 
also most likely break the GUI for printing documents.  Command line 
printing may be your only option.  I did such a test install in OS 
10.4.x, and I believe this was what I found.

Apple starts with the code from the cups.org and makes some 
modifications to suit their needs.  I don't know how much they change 
things, however, or in what areas.

If you do decide to give it a try, I would recommend that you make a 
full bootable backup before you start.  You can use Carbon Copy Cloner 
or SuperDuper for such a task.  That way you can reclaim your system 
after your trials without having to do an Archive and Install.
