Troff files are not formatted

Thank you for the explanation. I couldn't make sense out of mime.types
even after reading the manual page. I'm sure it's trivial for someone familiar
with the contents of that file, but it's not trivial for me. Could the standard
distribution come with commented out entries for troff files? I would have found it easier to edit existing entries than creating a new one.
For me, it was a lot easier to create a front end to "lpr" that calls 'file -i' to identify a troff document, and then calls groff if it finds one. That's working, but I don't like having to modify files that come with the distribution. Maybe I'm the only person left who has troff documents laying around and the only person left who cares
about them, but it doesn't seem like printing out a troff document should require the user to have to manually modify the print server.
