CUPS / Brother HL1430 (hl1250 driver) printing empty pages.

i've been trying to get this to work for about half a year now and i really what i should do next. i even tried to switch to lprng but that's just as terrible on a gentoo system. i had this printer working. i don't konw what happend. i can still print a test page from the web-interface. i always could. but when it comes to firefox, acroread, openoffice, ... you name it, my printer spits out only endless streams of paper, and i need to turn if off to make it stop. i've tried to use all kinds of ppd's. i've even downloaded one from linuxprinting.org and replaced my current one. everything i tried turned out to give the same result: endless stream of empty pages. /var/log/cups/error_log gives me nothing, but:

the only error that is reported, happens, because i usually just turn off the printer after a few (empty) pages.

i've tried/read all kinds of howtos and forum posts and i'm really getting very sad, because this printer works so flawlessly in windows. would someone please help me out here?
