I assume the original HP driver for Windows requires direct
bi-directional communication with the device.

Perhaps you can set up the HP driver for Windows for a
unidirectional mode?

If you only want to print from Windows (i.e. no scanning)
it should work when you select a generic Windows driver
for a compatible model.

See
http://hpinkjet.sourceforge.net/productsmf.php
to determine the printer driver class, e.g. for the PSC 1210 it
is DJ3320 and then folow the links on "DJ3320" to get via
"more detail" the list of compatible hardware at
http://hpinkjet.sourceforge.net/printmodedescr.php
deskjet 3320
deskjet 3420
deskjet 3425
deskjet 3500
officejet 4100
officejet 4200
psc 1100 series
psc 1200 series

I don't know if there is an "unidirectional" driver for Windows
available for those models (or for another compatible model).

Kind Regards
