startup speed of cups with many printers

CUPS doesn't check the status of printers, however it will load
the PPD file for each print queue, which can cause some performance
issues as you get more and more printers.  CUPS 1.2 addresses this
somewhat, and we have plans to add a PPD cache after CUPS 1.2 comes
out to further improve startup performance (the current code is
many times faster than CUPS 1.1.x).

We also made some performance improvements for startup in the later
1.1.x releases - if you are running anything less than 1.1.23, you
should upgrade.
