Detecting connected printers

Hello!

I am writing a CUPS and Qt based application. So far everything works well (I wrote a frontend to select a printer manufacturer and a model) but when it comes to auto-detecting the device the printer is on, i don't know how to do it.

To simplify KDE's printer system, my application will only use the "direct" printer class, so that only usb and parallel ports need to be
scanned for auto-detection.

Does anybody have an idea?
