cupsd: Child exited with status 98!

Answering my own post.  I searched the threads on this forum again, and this time I found the answer.  (Not sure why I didn't find it the first time.)  ypbind had decided to bind to port 631, so restarting that and (apparently) waiting a while to restart cups worked.  This leads to followup questions/suggestions:

(1) couldn't this be in the FAQ?

(2) couldn't the error message be more informative?

(3) Is there a way to make ypbind stay out of the way?
