[cups.general] Printing from Linux to OS X

I'm a Linux user that was given an older PowerMac running OS X (10.3)
and Cups 1.1 and an attached Epson Photo 870. I can get the test
page to print and can print from OpenOffice, but not from The Gimp.
I have a few questions below -- and a bit of background first:
I'm trying to print photos on Espon 4x6 photo paper. I can't figure out
how to do it with iphoto at all, so went back to using Linux and
The Gimp (with gimp-print driver for the Epson 870 selected).
I can print the CUPS Test Page, no problem. I can also print from
Openoffice on Linux to the Epson on the Mac without problems.
Printing the CUPS test page I see:
I [05/Sep/2005:16:05:16 -0700] Adding start banner page "none" to job 1141.
I [05/Sep/2005:16:05:16 -0700] Adding end banner page "none" to job 1141.
I [05/Sep/2005:16:05:16 -0700] Job 1141 queued on 'Stylus_Photo_870' by ''.
I [05/Sep/2005:16:05:16 -0700] Started filter /usr/libexec/cups/filter/pstopdffilter (PID 662) for job 1141.
I [05/Sep/2005:16:05:17 -0700] Started filter /System/Library/Printers/Libraries/PrintJobMgr/Contents/MacOS/PrintJobMgr (PID 663) for job 1141.
But when printing from The Gimp, I see in the Mac logs:
I [05/Sep/2005:16:02:26 -0700] Adding start banner page "none" to job 1140.
I [05/Sep/2005:16:02:26 -0700] Adding end banner page "none" to job 1140.
I [05/Sep/2005:16:02:26 -0700] Job 1140 queued on 'Stylus_Photo_870' by 'moseley'.
And the Completed Jobs list shows "completed" -- but nothing is
printed.
Here's my questions:
1) In The Gimp -- the printer command is:
lp -s -d 'Stylus_Photo_870' -oraw
Is -oraw correct? I assume it is as I'm using gimp-print as the
driver. But the job never prints -- even though it shows as a
completed job.
2) On the Mac's CUPS web interface for the Espon it says:
EPSON Stylus Photo 870
Description: EPSON Stylus Photo 870
Location: Playroom
Printer State: idle, accepting jobs.
"kPMEventJobProgress:1 1 1 1 1 1 96"
Device URI: file:///dev/null
Why is the Device URI /dev/null?
3) I'm not clear how to set options when printing from OpenOffice
(on Linux) to the Epson on the Mac. How do I set print quality,
paper type, etc?
Hum, I wonder why the Style_Photo only shows up when using -l
On Linux:
$ lpstat -l -v
device for 4ML: canon:/dev/lp0
device for AdobePDF: ipp://PowerMac.local/printers/AdobePDF
device for HP_LaserJet_6P: ipp://PowerMac.local/printers/HP_LaserJet_6P
device for SP_870hUSBi: ipp://PowerMac.local/printers/SP_870hUSBi
device for Stylus_Photo_870: ipp://PowerMac.local/printers/Stylus_Photo_870
On the Mac:
$ lpstat -v
device for 4ML at bumby: ipp://bumby:631/printers/4ML
device for AdobePDF: pdf://distiller/
device for HP_LaserJet_6P: pap://*/HP%20LaserJet%206P/LaserWriter
device for SP_870hUSBi: ///dev/null
device for Stylus_Photo_870: ///dev/null
Thanks,
