Limiting list of printers seen by user?

Hi!

Are there any ways to limit the list of printers a specific user sees
when he tries to print using CUPS-aware applications?

KDE can define "printer filters", which do almost the thing I'd want,
but they only apply for applications that use the kprint system. Is
there a more general way to solve the problem?
