Print queue stopped, status_code =1

I've got a number of identical dymo 330 label printers printing labels using
CUPS, all using HPjetdirect printserver.
A new label printer has been setup but jobs do not print. The jobs get
queued and that's it.
I can start the printqueue but it'll stop again straight away.
ping to the HPjetdirect server is ok.
There's another network printer managed by CUPS working ok on this seperate
network.
IPP print report has job-state-reasons  printer stopped
Windows print to the label printer via USB works
Tried to get IT support to power cycle both printer and print server - but
still same behaviour

status_code =1 means? some experience in troubleshooting this much
appreciated
