2400w 2 weeks and still trying

Hi Guys

Please bear with me I am not allowed to post links yet...
I am a complete noob. It took me a couple of days to install suse 10.1. I have kernel 2.6.16.21-0.25-default. Linux is installed on a partition next to windows. AMD Athlon 2700, 750Mb Ram, 80Ghdd etc. I am still using XP for day to day work until I have Suse configured to work for me. I expected a learning curve, but I am way off the scale.

I have been trying to install my printer for 2 weeks. It is a magicolor 2400w, which apparently should run using foomatic with the 2300 ppd. (Please do not confuse my language with familiarity, it is merely the babblings of a mimic, no real understanding...)

This is what I have tried so far.. novell.com/support/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=3150964&sliceId=SAL_Public&dialogID=19520022&stateId=1%200%202792508"]click here until I got to point number 5. I dont know what the heck that means....nor how to get there.

I have also searched other threads and googled. I ahve followed the instructions at

linuxprinting.org/cups-doc.html for my printer. I have looked here:

qbik.ch/usb/devices

I have read as much of the cups manual as I could stomach. I have tried to instal beh. I have downloaded two different drivers for the printer and installed them via Yast... nothing

If I dmesg I get the following:-

lp0: using parport0 (interrupt-driven).
usb 3-4: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 3
usb 3-4: new device found, idVendor=132b, idProduct=2001
usb 3-4: new device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=0
usb 3-4: Product: magicolor 2400W

PS next I need to get the scanner to work!
usb 3-4: Manufacturer: KONICA MINOLTA
usb 3-4: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
drivers/usb/class/usblp.c: usblp0: USB Bidirectional printer dev 3 if 0 alt 0 proto 2 vid 0x132B pid 0x2001
usbcore: registered new driver usblp
I have attached the whole thing if anyone is interested. I have worked hard on this, and I am not sure if it is stupidity or not... It took me an hour to collate the data for this post... I desparately would like to use Linux as my operating system but not if I cannot print. I have raged at Minolta customer services already, so don't tell me to do that.

Any replies welcome, but constructive ones in baby language written for auntie Mabel most welcome, please think of me as your Auntie Mabel with onset of dementia!

Apparently I have just discovered I am not allowed to attach dmesg file, so here it is in quotes. Apologies. Please help.

Kind regards
Kim
