Hi,

We are experiencing a really weird issue here. We are printing from oracle
apps to cups, the architecture consists in a central CUPS server, the
Oracle systems run CUPS and point directly to the central server. Randomly,
some jobs requesting just 1 printout are printed multiple times, like
twice, three times even 7 times etc. All servers are Redhat Enterprise
Linux ES, central cups server is RHEL 3 (with compiled from source cups,
v1.22), the oracle apps servers are RHEL4 with cups 1.1.22-0.rc1.9.11
(latest and greatest(?) from RH).

I checked the logs (yes, with debug enabled, but not w/ debug2 though - I
used to but I ran out of disk space rather quick...), I had sniffers
running on the central server and what I got to is something like this:

- on the originating server I get something like this:

....

[Job 74568] Unable to get job 2216769 attributes
(client-error-bad-request)!

PID 25740 stopped with status 1!

UpdateJob: job 74568, file 0 is complete.

...

job 74568 is the local job number, 2216769 is the job number on the central
server

- the sniffer on the central cups shows a 400 error (Bad request)

Other facts: the printers related to this sort of incidents are mostly HP,
various types and Zebra, various types as well. I have built another cups
server running on RHEL 4 ES, builtin cups, the same issue, it doesn't seem
to be OS dependent or cups version dependent.

Update:
Additionally, I have compiled/rpm packaged cups 1.1.23 from cups.org and
installed it onto my RHEL 4 apps servers. The issue persisted. We are still
getting multiple printouts with the same error. I have cups 1.1.19 running
on a RHEL 2.1, manually compiled and rpm packaged from cups.org, this works
fine, no issues so far, same documents being printed but no random multiple
printouts. Any thoughts ?

Is anybody able to give me some hint on how to fix this, what should I look
at etc.

Thanks in advance, any help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks,
 KTF
