[cups.general] lexmark 1100

Debian "testing" 2.6., lexmark 1100, cupsys-client ,bsd,cupsys, 
through synaptic

I've been trying a long time to make my printer work , nothing help.
I can see my printer (lexmark 1100) on the list when configuring it by
<http://localhost:631/printers>  (I also installed foomatic) but
nothing is printed.
Could it be that the printer is on the list but the driver is not
properly installed ?

I'm thinking of giving up this printer , is there a list of printers
suited for Linux/CUPS
