Unable to print tiff files

I am trying to print a tiff file on an HP Laserjet 8100 from a Solaris 10 box.  The test page and plain text print OK, but my print job for a tiff file gets aborted.

The command I am giving is:

$ lp -d printer_name file.tif

The error_log has this message:

The same command works fine for the same file from a RedHat 4.0 box to the same printer.

Any suggestions, or pointers to docs etc would be really appreciated.
