How do I use IFHP filters with CUPS

We do printer accounting using Lprng/IFHP and my interest is to move to CUPS on our new printer server.  Right now, I depend on the IFHP filter to kick off an accounting program and supply it with a number of parameters, including the printer name, user id, and total pages printed.

Is it possible to replicate that functionality with CUPS, and can anyone point me to a HOWTO that explains what I need to know?
