Sharing Linux printer with Mac

I got the Debian box to post its hostname on the router by including the line
send host-name "debian1";
in /etc/dhclient.conf on the Linux box.

I also added the line
192.168.2.48    debian1
to /etc/hosts on my Mac

Neither helped :-(

I am currently trying to figure out why OS X Tiger can't seem to resolve the hostname for the printer, or at least find a work around.

I am assuming at present that the problem is with OS X Tiger resolving LAN host names, and not with CUPS itself.
