Debian Testing & cups 1.2.1.

I'm trying to install an HP Laserjet 4, using the parallel port, yet when
I try to log onto the web interface, and add printers, I get some kind of
back end error.

The steps to this error;

web browser pointed to "localhost:631", which brings up the CUPS HOMEPAGE.

click ADD PRINTER, and enter pertinent info Name/Location/Descrption ->
HP/OFFICE/LASERJET 4, click continue

Next window, DEVICE FOR HP, and the requester has these entries;
backend_error_handling
hp_no_device_found
"my samsung on the USB port"
windows printing via samba

I cannot get past this point.

Since the "upgrade" to 1.2.1, Things have been borked royally.
