You can try and set "RIPCache" to a higher value in cupsd.conf.
It defaults to 8 MegaByte. Try one of these settings (or even
higher)

  RIPCache 64m
  RIPCache 128m
  RIPCache 256m

and see if this helps (provided that your CUPS host does in fact
have enough RAM to do that).
