I'm not trying to understand or reproduce your real problem here. But
for a quick workaround:
1. just accept what it suggests; go with any driver/PPD it proposes
2. then delete the PPD: "rm /etc/cups/ppd/printername.ppd"
and, voila!, you have a raw queue.
