xref error when trying to print PDF

Does it *print*? Or is this error message part of a print failure for

Does this mean stopping/starting the printer makes the PDF print,
until the next appearance of this error?

This error message is emitted by the pdftops filter. Can you
make the PDF available for closer investigation?
