Which version of CUPS? Which OS?

>>cups-1.1.23 Gentoo - Kernel 2.6.13

Does it *print*? Or is this error message part of a print failure for
the file?

>>It doesn't print unless I stop and start the printer in the cups web interface.

Does this happen to all PDF files or only some?

>>Only some.

Does this mean stopping/starting the printer makes the PDF print,
until the next appearance of this error?

>>Yes.

> > The pdf file isn't damaged.
How did you verify?

>> I opened the pdf in acroread for linux and printed it and it worked.

This error message is emitted by the pdftops filter. Can you
make the PDF available for closer investigation?

I can't make the PDF available because it is financial data from our accounting department.
