[cups.general] Unable to open "/dev/null" - Too many open files.

Greetings,

We've just put samba 3.0.23/cups 1.2.1 on debian sarge into production.  
This box is heavily used to serve printing to winXP clients.

I'm seeing cupsd crash every few hours with this message in 
/var/log/cups/error_log:
E [18/Jul/2006:13:25:25 -0400] Unable to open "/dev/null" - Too many 
open files.

Anyone know how to fix this?
