Unable to print to Epson Stylus 760

I'm running cups 1.1.23 on a FreeBSD 6.0 box and can't get it to talk to my
Epson Stylus Color 760 on the USB port.

When I try to print anything the printer just makes the usual initial
whirring and clicking sounds for a few seconds and then stops without any
movement of either the paper or carriage.

When I submit a test page from the web interface it shows up as a completed
job and I get the following in /var/log/cups/error.log

I [08/Jun/2006:14:46:00 +0100]
Started "/usr/local/libexec/cups/cgi-bin/printers.cgi" (pid=1234)

Started "/usr/local/libexec/cups/cgi-bin/printers.cgi" (pid=1241)

 ... and page.log has:
epson root 4 [08/Jun/2006:14:46:01 +0100] 1 1 - localhost

The odd thing is that everything worked OK when I installed and tested CUPS
two days ago but I've never managed to get it to work since and I'm sure I
haven't altered anything in the configuration.

Any suggestions on how I should go about sorting this out?
