hex code in file, result: client-error-document-format-not-supported

I am trying to send a file to a sticker printer but it requires me to send 0x02/^B in the file.

command:
lp -dmy_printer my_file

Error:
lp: unable to print file: client-error-document-format-not-supported

Version information:
libgnomecups-0.1.12-5
cups-libs-1.1.22-0.rc1.9.10
hal-cups-utils-0.5.2-8
cups-1.1.22-0.rc1.9.10

Setting it to accept raw did not seem to have any affect.
