Hello,

I can't get cups to print on my HP Deskjet 640C. I am trying to do this on a Debian machine, with the current version of cupsys 1.2.1-2 installed.

I'm configuring the printer cupsconfig tool, accepting the defaults offered. After the setup is complete, I try to print the testpage, which first reports that the page was sent sucessfully, but then results in an error, stating "client-error-document-format-not-supported".

I looked around for a solution and already uncommented the "application/octet-stream"-lines in mime.convs and mime.types - this brought no improvement.

I set the debug level in cupsd.conf to "debug2" and during cupsys restart the following lines show up:

d [28/Jun/2006:13:41:51 +0200] add_printer_formats: 2 types, 0 filters
d [28/Jun/2006:13:41:51 +0200] add_printer_formats: deskjet_640c: application/octet-stream not supported
d [28/Jun/2006:13:41:51 +0200] add_printer_formats: deskjet_640c: printer/deskjet_640c not supported
d [28/Jun/2006:13:41:51 +0200] add_printer_formats: deskjet_640c: 1 supported types

What do I need to look at to figure out what is wrong with my configuration ?

Thanks for any hint.....

Wolfgang
