print job monitoring

I need to implement a printing system able to notify an external application when the print job has actually been printed by the printer or otherwise notify the error. After reviewing the documentation of CUPS I couldn't see if CUPS provides such feature or not. I know CUPS implements IPP which allows notifying the print job progress (print job being printed, print job completed, etc) but I couldn't see if CUPS implements that part of the RFC and if so how to use it by an external application.

Does anybody know if that is possible either using IPP, SNMP or any other method with CUPS?
