Cannot print more than a handful of pages

Hi all

My printer (Samsung CLP-550, CLP-550ps.ppd) doesn't print documents with
more than about 5 pages. It is attached to a U.S. Robotics
Swtich with a parallel printer port.

The configuration is
URI: lpd://192.168.1.4/lp
where 192.168.1.4 is my switch.

Small files are no problem, but when printing
for example 10 pages of a PDF document, the printer
starts to blink but not one page comes out.

After a while CUPS GUI says "Remote host did not accept data file (32)",
the printer is stopped.
