default printer with a2ps

Hello,

I'm using cups 1.1. I've got several printers in the system with one default printer. When I try to print using the following command it doesn't work:

kambo ~/tmp 502$ a2ps keuken
[keuken (plain): 1 page on 1 sheet]
lp: error - scheduler not responding!
[Total: 1 page on 1 sheet] sent to the default printer
kambo ~/tmp 503$ lpq
lpq: error - no default destination available.
kambo ~/tmp 504$

Is this normal or is it just a setting somewhere that I've overlooked?
