Dear all,
Trying to install a second printer on my fedora system.
The previous one is a parallel printer. The new one is
an hp laserjet 1018 on usb port 1.
I ran printconf as root, tried lots of things on
http://localhost:631 ----
What is and what is not:
-- two printers are recognized, the second one being

laserjet_1018 HP LaserJet 1018 Foomatic/foo2zjs (recommended)
Description: HP LaserJet 1018
Location: USB Printer #1
Printer State: idle, accepting jobs.
Device URI: usb://HP/LaserJet%201018

and lpstat -t gives consistent results:

scheduler is running
system default destination: Imprimante
device for deskjet_842c: parallel:/dev/lp0
device for laserjet_1018: usb://HP/LaserJet%201018
deskjet_842c accepting requests since Jan 01 00:00
laserjet_1018 accepting requests since Jan 01 00:00
printer deskjet_842c is idle. enabled since Jan 01 00:00
printer Imprimante is idle. enabled since Jan 01 00:00
printer laserjet_1018 is idle. enabled since Jan 01 00:00

-- I am a bit worried about this usb://HP/LaserJet%201018
which is also the answer of /usr/lib/cups/backend/usb
/dev/usb/lp0 belongs to root and group lp
-- Problems: from http://localhost:631/printers, if I ask
for a Test Page, nothing comes out, but the job is declared

-- "lp -Plaserjet_1018 Oups.txt" complains that
lp: unable to print file: client-error-bad-request
but that may be a distinct problem. /var/log/cups/error_log
has "print_job: bad page-ranges values 0-0."
-- "lpr -Plaserjet_1018 Oups.txt" does not complain. And
/var/log/cups/error_log has

Adding start banner page "none" to job 58.

but no output ...
-- I started kdvi with a dvi file and tried to print a file, with
same output (except that texttops was not invoked of course).
I'm a bit in a fix :-p and any help would be ... helpful :-)
Cheers,
Amities,
Olivier
